Welcome
JRA Woodworking represents one of those callings that are steeped in tradition and built on strong ethics of artistry, craft and tradition. Domestic, commercial, architectural and ecclesiastical, JRA Woodworking works with you, the client, to create furniture of inspirational quality.
Constructed under the personal supervision of the proprietor, John Apps BA (hons) FIOC (Fellow of the Institute of Carpenters), John welcomes your enquiry and, indeed, by prior arrangement, your visit to his Slingsby workshops to see examples of current and previous commissions. Here though the main focus will be on your ideas, visions and requirements and how John may be able to realise them for you.
With years of experience including an apprenticeship with Robert Thompson, the 'mouseman' at Kilburn and latterly as Head of Furniture at York College (1992-2005) John also runs courses at his extensive workshops for small groups which are designed for enthusiasts with aspirations to create inspiring items of furniture. John is co-author of the acclaimed book 'The Marquetry Course' with Jack Metcalfe.
JRA Woodworking is a classic business based on years of experience and dedication.
